I really wanted to share this post with you because it’s something everyone encounters on a daily basis. Consciously or subconsciously, there are certain things that cause us to emotionally react. It may relate to a specific experience from childhood or past.
When your brain feels something has been taken away from you, your emotions are triggered. These emotional reactions can also be called emotional triggers.
What triggers you?
Figure out what triggers you. Is it acceptance, balance, control, attention, freedom, or comfort? The list can go longer. These needs are perfectly alright to have. They served you at some point in your life, so they exist in your life. But it is critical to determine if you are becoming attached to these needs.
Some people have a need for control and anything or anyone that threatens to take that away triggers them to emotionally react. This may have arose because some experience in their past or childhood led them to believe that control means being successful or happy or establishing a safe environment.
Be Honest
It’s essential you figure out what triggers you. It’s great to have these needs, but you must gauge why it carries emotional charge for you. Does it link to another experience? You want to make sure that your needs are genuinely not being met, so it’s rational for you to emotionally react. Or are you being unreasonable and perhaps taking the situation too personally?
By understanding what triggers you, you have a greater emotional understanding of yourself.
What emotionally triggers you? Do you find certain needs carry an emotional charge for you? Please share with me in the comments.
