Have you felt angry with something a loved one said? Or was it something your boyfriend said? I have felt this on more than one occasion. My typical reaction is just to ignore my feelings and behave as if nothing happened and didn’t bother me at all.
Expressing Your Emotions Allows You to Feel Free
I used to think that I was being unreasonable if I let the other person know something they said or did bothered me. It also had to do with my fear of being vulnerable. When you express something, you also show you care in some ways. I wanted to act like I was Super Woman and didn’t have feelings.
But the breaking point always came. When I couldn’t handle any more, then I would explode. And then I would be an emotional mess. Usually, the person would say to me: But I never knew you felt this way.
The aftermath of the explosion? I felt free and open. Though it was emotionally taxing to explode in this fashion, I felt this strange serenity take over me. It felt good to express myself.
Happier Relationships and More Open Communication
When you express yourself, you’ll find your relationships will be happier. There will be open communication and you’ll feel great about communicating your needs and desires.
Here are some ways to do this:
- Show emotions with your facial expressions
- Set aside time (when you are cool & collected) to have an open conversation with the person
- Talk to a friend to express your feelings
- Write in your journal
Have you tried any of these tips? How did you feel afterwards? Please share in the comments.
