I want to share with you what happened to me earlier this week. I threw on my gym clothes and slipped my ear phones into my ears and played a song on my iPhone. It was a melodious, but intense, sad song. All of a sudden, my eye liner became messed up around my eyes. I couldn’t stop crying.
I didn’t completely understand the impulse. That day, I had felt my chest become heavy. I had sensed my mood dipping.
Don’t Ignore Your Impulses
But that song had triggered something hidden deep in my heart. The old me would have tried to stop crying, dusted myself off, and pranced off to the gym. I would have behaved like nothing happened.
But this time, I didn’t. I felt my emotion fully. I cried for a full half an hour. I cried in the car on the way to the gym.
Own All Your Emotions – Including Your Darkness
When you feel like crying, give yourself the space and liberty to feel the emotion. It’s easy to feel feelings of happiness and other positive feelings. But being a human being, you won’t feel that way all the time.
Own all your emotions. Embrace even your dark emotions. Let them flow out of you and love every part of you because they are equally a part of you.
Shine Your Light
You can’t disconnect from that part of you. They exist just like the light and beauty exist within you. Don’t be ashamed, but love them even more. There is a purpose to them and will show you how to shine your inner light even more brightly.
