Do you become angry easily? Does your blood start boiling fast? Do you react fast and start yelling? If that’s you, it’s a good idea to learn some tips so you can keep a leash on your anger and calm down.
Don’t Act on Your First Impulse
Getting angry frequently does not serve any purpose to you. I’m not saying that you should never get angry. It’s a normal human emotion and you should feel it. But the danger is when you react to every situation.
Don’t act on your first impulse. Don’t react to every single thing or person. You must pick your battles carefully. When you show your anger to limited situations and people that actually warrant a reaction, people will also take you more seriously.
Calm Yourself Down
When you feel the emotion, calm yourself down. Let yourself feel the wave of anger and let it then subside because you can think rationally only when the anger has vanished.
Use Positive Self-Talk
Tell yourself that it’s not worth getting upset over what or who triggered you. Let it go because it takes away from your energy. This can trick you into feeling more calm.
Distract Yourself
Take a walk outside or play with your pet. You can exit the conversation or situation gracefully and speak to a close friend in confidence. You can meditate or write in your journal to avoid reacting.
