I came across this article recently about a high school senior named Wilson To who created a Facebook page called “Atech Compliments”. It’s a place where anonymous, kind messages were posted about members of the student body. Students used the page to compliment their peers and simply post nice, kind things about people.
I thought it was amazing because I remember how vulnerable and insecure I felt in high school. It’s a critical time of our lives and w need to hear that we’re great in some way.
What was even more incredible was sadly bullying has been spreading across schools today and a student took the lead in creating something that could only help his peers. I hear stories from my loved ones themselves who are in high school or college about bullying stories all the time and it tears my heart. I hope every school runs something similar like what Wilson did and students take the lead.
Why Did He Create it?
He saw bullying was becoming rampant across his high school and he wanted something that could spread positivity across the school. High school is a sensitive time in a person’s life and sometimes, young people need words of kindness and assurance that can build their self-esteem in a time of questioning and vulnerability.
Is it Still There?
Yes! He ran the page secretly for a year, without revealing his identity. The idea became such a hit that even after his graduation, he trained the administrators how to run the page after him.
