Are you an Indian girl whose parents want you to get married right away? Or do you know an Indian girl in this situation?
Well, I’m an Indian girl, and my parents have been on my case! Since I started working, I’ve heard my mother telling me to get married.
My Mother has been Planning My Wedding Since I was a Child…
When we go to a wedding and my mother likes the venue, flowers, or catering, she’ll find out the exact details of the person or company in charge of these aspects. She’ll get their business cards and believe it or not, she stuffs it in a folder in her bedroom.
I never knew she had a folder specifically allotted to my marriage until my sister told me!
Since I was Twenty-Five…
My mother’s insistence on getting me married has increased exponentially every year. It doesn’t help that I am a girl and the oldest child. I’m also the oldest grandchild in my father’s side of the family. She has been dreaming about perfecting every detail of my wedding since I was a child.
My Mother Is Open-Minded
She wants me to get married to someone of my own choice. Though my parents love each other, she didn’t have a choice in the matter. She wants me to find a partner who understands me completely and will stick with me through thick and thin.
I told my mother though I appreciate her thoughts, I’ll get married when the right time comes and with the right man. For now, she’ll have to trust me that I’m making the right decisions.
